About Us
PRFCOSTRA is dedicated to helping our members provide safe and enjoyable guest experiences on Pelee Island. It fosters sustainable community relations and advocates for self-regulation by residential owners offering short-term stays in their cottage homes.
Our members offer short-term stays to assist with the increasing costs associated with cottage ownership in Ontario. Their properties are not considered as commercial rental properties by their owners, as they are cottages used by family and friends.
Members use of their family cottages to include offering short-term stays does not adversely impact the availability of housing on Pelee Island. Many of the family cottages offered for short-term stays would not be suitable for year-round living.
PRFCOSTRA advocates for the continued use by family cottage owners to offer short-term stays at their cottages with self-regulation and commitment to our Code of Conduct and Best Practices.
PRFCOSTRA recognizes the legacy of short-term stays at family cottages in Ontario for the continued enjoyment of guests wanting to experience cottage life in Canada, as cottages increasingly become unaffordable for families with average household incomes. Our members provide the family cottage experience to guests that is a loved valued tradition of many Canadians. They also contribute to our local economy as they support guests wanting to experience Pelee Island. We thank our members for continuing island traditions!
